Walk across the Captain Joseph Azzolina Bridge that crosses the Shrewsbury River to Sea Bright and Sandy Hook.
Visit the famous Twin Lights of Navesink (built in 1862) and experience the breathtaking view of the Atlantic Ocean and New York City across Raritan Bay.
Meditate by the sculpted statues in Veterans Park which honors victims of 9-11.
Rent kayaks or canoes to enjoy the water front while also getting some exercise.
Rent bicycles of all times to explore the miles of trails that run to points beyond the town.
Visit the museum of the Historical Society of Highlands locate inside the Twin Lights of Navesink.
Plan a day trip to New York City via ferry service on the Sea Streak which also offers a ‘sightseeing ticket’ if you don’t disembark and come back to Highlands. The trip is about 2 hours long.
Stroll along Popamora Beach to look for shells and sea glass.

Visit Joshua Huddy Park and learn about a distinguished American Patriot who was hung at this location during the Revolutionary War.
Grab your skateboard and navigate the creative curves and ramps of a skateboard park.
Rent a boat and explore the water ways.
Try your hand at crabbing from a bridge or at the water’s edge.
Jog on any number of footpaths or along the white beaches of Sandy Hook.
Take photographs of the town and don’t forget to visit some of the scenic overlooks facing Raritan Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.
Go horseback riding in nearby Navesink.
Visit historic Hartshorne Woods Park to hike, picnic and see one of the large guns from World War II.
Go stand-up paddleboarding in the Shrewsbury River and/or Raritan Bay.
Visit Gunnison Beach on Sandy Hook – a clothing optional beach.
Get aboard one of the three-hour cruises to enjoy a beautiful sunset on Raritan Bay.
